Joseph is the Managing Partner and Senior Tax Partner of Acquavella, Chiarelli, Shuster, LLP, Certified Public Accountants & Advisors. He started the firm in 1985. The firm is made up of four partners and twenty-five staff.
He has been providing Tax advice and consulting services to Corporations, Partnerships and High net worth Individuals for over 35 years. He has helped clients achieve their goals and overcome challenges in their marketplace. His expertise encompasses all aspects of tax, accounting, and business consulting with extensive experience in assisting clients with IRS controversy and strategic business planning. He believes that best practices come from extensive year-round tax planning and operating efficiencies. At the center of his practice are high net worth individuals and closely held companies. He has published articles in the Practical Accountant and presented various Tax seminars to Accountants, Bankers, and Clients in many industries. He also served as a lecturer for CW Post Graduate School, City University of New York and currently serving as an adjunct professor for Fairleigh Dickinson Graduate School.
Joseph is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accounts Tax Division; and also, a member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants as well as the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants.
He also has served on the Taxation of Financial Instruments Committee for the New York State Society of CPA’s as well as serving as the past President of the Metropolitan Credit Club in NYC, Phoenix Credit Club and Guardian Angels Alliance board of directors (501-C-3) operating in 35 States.
He started his career in the Trust Division of Manufacturers Hanover, in Rockefeller center NYC. and went on to the Internal Revenue Service as an Agent in the Manhattan District Examination division. After four years in the Examination division, he served as an instructor for new agents and became a member of the IRS strike force. Joseph then joined the New York CPA firm of Berenson, Berenson, Adler & Co. in their Tax department (now part of J.H. Cohn LLP) and consulted for the New York firm of Eisner & Lubin LLP, CPA’s.
Joseph holds an M.S. in Taxation from Long Island University and a B.S. in Accounting from Brooklyn College, New York City. He also holds a series 7 NASD license and series 66.
He is married to Arlene. They have five children ranging in age from 28 to 38 and two grandchildren.
